Fishing this week

HOT SPOTS

ARKANSAS RIVER (LITTLE ROCK POOL) Bass are biting well on crankbaits and Zoom Brush Hogs. Catfishing is good below the dam using shad. Bream are biting well on night crawlers fished 4-5 feet deep. Crappie are biting well on black/chartreuse and red/chartreuse jigs fished around brush in 6-8 feet of water.

BEAVER LAKE Bass fishing is excellent in the mid-section of the lake using jigs, spoons and drop-shot worms. Stripers are scattered but are biting throughout the day with peaks at dusk and dawn. Most walleye are being caught about10-30 feet deep using a variety of methods.

MILLWOOD LAKE Topwater action for largemouth bass has been excellent, with surface breaking in various locations by bass in the 2-3 pound range. White bass are biting Rat-L-Traps in chrome black zombie and sexy zombie, or Spin-Traps in chrome blue back colors on points and creek mouth junctions. Crappie are moving shallow, following shad and baitfish into the creek channels. Catfish are being caught on trot lines or yo-yos baited with Catfish Charlie, cottonseed meal cake slabs and homemade blood bait.

LAKE OUACHITA Black bass are schooling and topwater action is getting better daily. Try a Zara Spook Jr. or Zara Pup near creek channels and main lake points. Walleye fishing is fair using drop-shot rigs and bottom bouncers fished with night crawlers and C.C. spoons nearbrush. Striper fishing is getting better with most fish being caught on live bait and big hair jigs. Bream are hitting crickets and worms in 20-25 feet of water near brush. Catfish are being caught with live bait or hot dogs on jug lines and trotlines set 18-25 feet deep.

WHITE RIVER Water clarity is good and the trout are biting well. The best technique has been drift fishing with shrimp or a wax worm/marshmallow combination. The hot flies have been Y2Ks, prince nymphs, zebra midges, pheasant tails, copper Johns, pink and cerise San Juan worms, gold ribbed hare’s ears and sow bugs.
