THE GAME: Rogers High quarterback Grayson Lee ran for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the Mounties past Bentonville Black on Thursday in Northwest Arkansas Conference football action at Tiger Stadium.

Lee got the Mounties (5-3, 2-2 NWAC) on the board first in the fi rst quarter with a 14-yard touchdown run around the right side on the Mounties’ first drive of the game.

“Tonight we leaned on Grayson more than we have been in the past,” Rogers coach Jeremiah Tebbenkamp said. “Grayson wore the brunt of the work tonight, and we knew that would be the case in order to get a win.”

The Tigers (4-4, 2-2) would not go down without a fight, as they cut the Mounties’ lead to 19-14 in the third quarter behind a pair of Tyler Pike touchdown runs. Pike fi nished with 93 yards rushing on 17 carries, but it wasn’t enough to put away the Mounties.

The Mounties managed a touchdown in every quarter and scored on four of their fi ve offensive possessions, including a 7-yard touchdown run by Lee with three minutes left in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

Washington won the eighthgrade game 28-7 over Elmwood.

UP NEXT: Bentonville Black travels to Springdale Central next week, while Rogers hosts Springdale George.

THE GAME: With Fayetteville Ramay poised to tie the game at 7, Springdale Central’s Rene Ventura returned a fumble 99 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter for a 14-0 lead that Central didn’t relinquish.

“The game was won on the goal line,” Central coach Fred Hartsfi eld said. “You might say we were lucky, but we stepped up and made a huge, huge play.”

Central (7-1, 4-0) led 7-0 at halftime thanks to Dalton Douangdara’s 21-yard touchdown run.

He finished with 198 yards and scored the Warriors’ fi nal touchdown to seal it with 3:46 left.

Ramay (5-3, 3-1) got both its touchdowns from eighth grader Jon Conley, and Terrance Rock tallied 173 yards on the ground.

Central won the eighth-grade game 34-12.

UP NEXT: Ramay visits Siloam Springs, while Central hosts Bentonville Black.

THE GAME: Bentonville dominated from the first play of the game.

Gold (7-1, 3-1) got on the board first on Hunter Garrigus’ 59-yardtouchdown on the first play of the game, giving the Tigers an early 7-0 lead. Shortly after, Bentonville’s Canaan Ross ran for an 8-yard touchdown early in the second quarter as Gold extended its lead to 14-0.

“Very proud of our kids,” Gold coach Toma Whorton said. “They did a great job coming out from start to finish. And our line play helped open up our gaps. Our line play was really good from the offense side of the ball, and I felt like our defense stepped up and had a great night.”

Bentonville’s Hayden Moehring drilled a 34-yard field goal late in the second quarter, increasing the margin to 17-0 at halftime.

Late in the third quarter, Bentonville got on the board again with Ross’ pass to Bryce Davis for a 13-yard pass-and-run touchdown, bringing the score to 24-0.

Rogers Heritage (3-5, 2-2) fi nally got on the board early in the fourth quarter on Joe Britton’s 3-yard touchdown.

Bentonvillle Fulbright and Rogers Oakdale tied the eighth-grade game 26-26.

UP NEXT: Rogers Heritage travels to Springdale Lakeside next week, while Bentonville Gold hosts Springdale Southwest.

THE GAME: Springdale George was both good and Lucky on Thursday night.

Wranglers running back Lucky Bannavong rushed for more than 100 yards in a win over Siloam Springs at Jarrell Williams Bulldog Stadium.

George (4-4, 1-3) scored the game’s only touchdown in the fi rst half when offensive linemen Chris Arevalo recovered an offensive fumble in the end zone.

“We had a nice drive going and got down near the end zone when we coughed up the ball,” said George coach Blake Cook.

“Fortunately the defense was able to pull out the shutout and make that early score stand up.”

The Wranglers’ defense forced four turnovers, three of which came in the second half. Siloam Springs(1-7, 0-4) fumbled on all three drives in the second half, the most costly coming with two minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Panthers had driven inside the George 5-yard line before the fumble.

Bannavong helped chew up the clock down the stretch, touching the ball on all but four of the Wranglers’ offensive plays in the second half.

Siloam Springs won the eighthgrade game 14-0.

UP NEXT: George will travel to Rogers High next week, while Siloam Springs will host Fayetteville Ramay.

SPRINGDALE SOUTHWEST 0

THE GAME: Andrew Ellis rushed for 126 yards and one touchdown and quarterback Taylor Powell was 6-of-9 passing for 108 yards and a touchdown as the Cowboys defeated Southwest.

“Any time you can beat Southwest, it is a good win,” said Cowboys coach Bobby Crockett.

“Southwest is well coached and they play hard.”

Woodland (8-0, 4-0) led 13-0 at halftime and a 69-yard touchdown run by Ellis put the game away in the second half. Luke Waller also scored a touchdown for Woodland.

A Woodland win next week would put the Cowboys in the Northwest Arkansas Conference championship game against the West Divisionwinner the final week of the season.
