Hot Springs police spokesman Cpl. McCrary Means said officers responded to the area about 8:30 p.m. and found the victim, who was transported by LifeNet to a hospital, where he died. Investigators with the Hot Springs Police Department were on the scene collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

As of late Friday, police had not released the name of a suspect or a motive for the shooting.

Anderson’s mother, Rovenda Sims, said Friday that her son had just turned 29 on Sunday.

“It’s still a shock. I’m trying to take all of it in,” she said. “He was a good man.”

A native of Gurdon who had attended high school there and graduated from an academy in Florida, Anderson was the only child of Sims of Caddo Valley and Carl Freddy Anderson of Gurdon.

Anderson had been living in Hot Springs for about three years. He had a daughter, 6, and son, 2.

“He was very outgoing and had lots of friends,” Sims said, noting Anderson’s friends called him “Lil’ Pooh.”

“He loved pretty cars,” she said, adding that her son raced them in his spare time.

At one point, Anderson had owned a detail shop in Hot Springs. But less than a year ago, he had gone to work as the supervisor of the detail shop at Tim Parker Chrysler Dodge on Central Avenue.
