ROGERS — Rogers High coach Shawn Flannigan moved Max Harrell back to quarterback, and the Mounties offense had its best outing since going to the triple option three seasons ago.

Rogers had three players rush for more than 100 yards, and the Mounties finished with 556 yards on the ground in a 59-42 victory against Springdale Har-Ber in a 7A/6A-West Conference game Friday night.

Slot back Brandon Workman finished with 222 yards on just eight carries, and the senior had touchdown runs of 57, 57 and 63 yards. Slot back Ty Galyean added 135 yards with touchdown runs of 57 and three yards.

But it was the play of Harrell that proved to be the difference. Harrell made his first start in four weeks, and he responded with 101 yards on 22 carries while executing the Mounties (5-3, 2-3 7A/6A-West) option attack to near perfection. After losing four fumbles the past two weeks, the Mounties did not put the ball on the ground once.

“We executed real well,” Flannigan said. “Max is a natural born leader, and what a way to rebound. Max did a great job leading our team. We didn’t punt once, and that says a lot about the offense.

Har-Ber (5-3, 3-2) cut the Rogers lead to 49-42 with 10 minutes, 36 seconds left in the game on a short touchdown run by Sain Mathew. But the Mounties marched 67 yards in 8:38 and increased the lead to 52-42 on a 28-yard field goal by Ryan Nolan. Rogers defensive back Dane Rogers then returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown with just over a minute left to put the game out of reach.

Har-Ber coach Chris Wood said the Wildcats had no answer for the Mounties running game. Rogers scored on its first five possessions of the game and their first two of the second half.

“Rogers established the run game, and I think we stopped them once all night,” Wood said. “Tonight, Rogers was a better team. Rogers just executed and they did a good job on the option pitch.”

EXTRA POINTS

• Har-Ber quarterback Kyle Pianalto completed 14-of-26 passes for 267 yards and four touchdowns. Wildcats receiver Camden Scott had six catches for 101 yards and three touchdowns.

• Mathew finished with 170 yards rushing and the senior scored two touchdowns.

• Har-Ber reciever Gus Vitt made a one-handed catch for 15-yard gain on third-and-7 at midfield in the first half. Pianalto then hit Scott for a 33-yard touchdown the next play to cut the Rogers lead to 28-14.
