Bauxite Miners

Conference: 4A-7

Coach: Andy Brakebill, first year

Assistant: Drew Hohn

2012-13 record: 13-12

Returning starters: Two players are returning from last year’s starting five. Senior Hunter Holder, 5-11, is a point guard that first-year coach Andy Brakebill calls “a tough kid who handles the ball well.” Ben Madison, a 6-2 junior, plays forward and has been called “versatile, athletic and skilled” by the coach. Another player, Bradly McCool, a 6-0 forward, would have been a starter all last year as a sophomore but was injured and missed most of the season.

Best inside players: Madison and McCool will be on the inside, coach Brakebill said. “McCool will be the strongest inside player,” the coach said. “McCool can get aggressive on the inside.”

Best outside players: Holder and Zack Baxley, a 5-10 sophomore, will play both the one and two positions as a point and off guard. “Holder will be handling the ball a lot for us,” the coach said. Hunter and Madison are the team’s big 3-point shooters for what Brakebill calls his hybrid team. Also working the outside will be Senior Cody Lambert, 5-11, in the three and four positions, while Ian Allred will take on the one and two positions in some formations.

In a nutshell: “We want to mix it up with some man defense and some matchups,” Brakebill said. “We want to grind it out on defense.”
