Glen Rose Beavers

Conference: 3A-5

Coach: Chad Pitts, first year at school

Assistant coach: Bryan Weatherford

2012-13 record: 0-18

Returning starters: Two starters from last year’s team return this year. Coach Chad Pitts said he is looking for points from Dillon LeQueiu, a 6-3 forward. The coach said he expects junior point guard Austin Montgomery, 5-8, to “lead the show” this year because of his ability to “be in the right spots at the right times.” The team will have six seniors.

Best inside players: “LeQueiu will play a physical post inside,” Pitts said, “while Austin Donaldson, a 6-2 senior, is a stocky player who can mix it up inside for us.” Austin Ellis, a 6-2 senior guard, can play all the perimeter spots and will be “a good role player as a starter who will do the work we need in the game,” the coach said.

Best outside players: Senior Jeremy Doll, 6-2, is the team’s best shooter who made 3 or 4 3-pointers per game. “He is one kid that can really shoot the ball,” Pitts said. In addition, the coach said, Dalton Roach, a 6-3 junior who did not play a lot of minutes last year, will get in the game to “mix it up as a slasher” this year.

Team strengths: “We have to use the length to our advantage and be physical in the traps,” Pitts said. “We have good length and long arms.”

Team weaknesses: “We are not really fast or quick,” the coach said. “We are not athletic, and we have only one real shooter.”

In a nutshell: “If we can beat some of the teams early and steal some games we are not supposed to,” the coach said, “we can get to the conference postseason.”
