JP confirms her plans to run for county judge

A member of the Pulaski County Quorum Court has entered the 2014 race for county judge.

District 9 Justice of the Peace Wilma Walker, a Democrat, will make a formal announcement with an outlined platform later, but she confirmed Saturday that the Facebook page promoting her candidacy is legitimate.

Walker said she hadn’t intended for the Facebook page to debut this early. She said she wanted to wait to announce her candidacy until she had fine-tuned her platform to avoid early criticism.

Walker, of College Station, is a former member of the Arkansas House of Representatives. She was elected in 1996 and served six years before leaving because of term limits.

This is Walker’s first year on the Pulaski County Quorum Court. Her district in Pulaski County stretches over parts of south Little Rock, Wrightsville and a large chunk of unincorporated area in the southeast portion of the county, including College Station, Sweet Home and Higgins.

Walker is joined in the race by former state Rep. Barry Hyde, a Democrat from North Little Rock, who announced Wednesday that he is running for the seat.

Longtime Pulaski County Judge Buddy Villines, first elected to the post in 1992, announced earlier this month that he would not seek another term.
