Mo. patrol chopper crash lands, minor injuries

JEFFERSON CITY — One person had minor injuries after a Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter crash landed during a training flight.

The patrol says two pilots were training in the helicopter Saturday afternoon when an engine failed. The pilots conducted an emergency landing into an open field southeast of the Jefferson City airport in Callaway County.

Patrol spokesman Sgt. Paul Reinsch says one of the pilots sustained minor injuries but didn't need medical treatment. The other pilot was uninjured. No one else was on board.

Reinsch says the helicopter was extensively damaged upon impact, but it's unclear if the helicopter is a total loss.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been called in to investigate the cause.
