Riverview Raiders

Conference: 2-3A

Coach: T.J. Coleman

Assistant coach: Nathan Claxton

2012-2013 record: 17-12 overall and 5-2 conference

Returning starters: Elijah Baker, 6-2 senior post

Best outside players: Landon Ramsey, 5-11 junior shooting guard. “He shoots the ball well, and he runs the floor well,” Coleman said. Deshawn Lee, a 5-8 sophomore point guard, is also a standout player for Coleman. “He handles the ball well. He’s good at driving and making other players get open.”

Best inside players: Baker. “He’s got good footwork and can handle it pretty good for a big guy,” Coleman said.

How will you match/exceed/fall short of your success from last year? “We’re just going to be working hard and staying hungry to compete for a conference championship.”

Team strengths: “Our players really like to get in the gym and play,” Coleman said.

Team weaknesses: “We have a young team,” he said. “We’ve got one returning starter and one senior.”

Games to watch: Rose Bud, Harding Academy, Bald Knob and Barton

Toughest opponent: “We have a tough conference, and [we play] tough teams in the Riverview Classic,” Coleman said.

In a nutshell: “We have some good young players we are counting on to play a lot of valuable minutes on the floor for us this year,” Coleman said. “They are going to step into a big role for our team starting in November, when we start playing games.” Coleman said that at the end of football season, he will have three other players coming over to play basketball. This is Coleman’s first year at Riverview, and he said he is excited about his new job. “I’m looking forward to coaching this new team,” he said. “This is my first year as a high school head coach, and I’ve got a great group of boys. We’ve got a young but talented team.”
