Saline County gets Civil War marker

A Civil War Sesquicentennial Marker has been approved for Saline County, the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission announced.

The historical marker will be placed on the grounds of the Saline County Courthouse in Benton. The marker will commemorate the removal of Saline County’s records as Union troops approached Little Rock in September 1863.

The Saline County circuit clerk’s office is sponsoring the marker. Saline County is the 46th county to have a sesquicentennial marker approved.

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission Historical Marker Program works with local partners to tell stories about how the 1861-65 Civil War affected communities in Arkansas. More information about the program and other sesquicentennial activities is available at the commission’s website at arkansascivilwar150.com.
