Two bodies found in burned home

The bodies of two people were found in the remains of a Berryville home that was destroyed in an early-morning fire Saturday, a Berryville police detective said.

Berryville firefighters found the bodies in the house at 1112 North Springfield St., Detective Robert Bartos said. He said the bodies were sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for identification, noting that it was possible the two people lived at the house.

He said neighbors spotted the burning house and reported the fire at 12:30 a.m. The house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, and Bartos said the house was a total loss.

The state fire marshal’s office has been called in to investigate the fire and determine where and how it started, Bartos said.

He said members of the volunteer Fire Department spent several hours extinguishing the fire and were called back two or three times to put out flare-ups.

Berryville, in Carroll County, has a population of 5,356.
