3 die in separate accidents in state

Three people died after separate accidents on state roads Sunday and Monday, according to preliminary Arkansas State Police fatality crash reports.

About 10:10 a.m. Sunday, Sadie Wactor, 18, of Louann was driving east on U.S. 278 west of Camden when her 1998 Toyota veered off the road and overturned, state police said. Wactor was taken to Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden but later transferred to St. Joseph’s Regional Health Center in Hot Springs.

She was pronounced dead at the Hot Springs hospital, state police said.

Just before 8 p.m. Sunday, Federico Flores, 42, of Hope, was driving east in a 2005 Saturn on Avenue F in Hope when he began turning left onto Hervey Street, state police said. A 2010 Freightliner was headed south on Hervey Street and collided with Flores’ vehicle, which then overturned, state police said.

A doctor at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Hope pronounced Flores dead about 9:20 p.m., state police said.

The tractor-trailer driver, Jonathan Barbaree, 23, of Hope was uninjured.

Heather Howell, 14, of Colt died Monday after a three-vehicle collision in St. Francis County, state police said.

About 7:45 a.m., Justin Marquis, 32, of Colt was driving a 2006 Chevrolet truck north on Arkansas 1 near Caldwell when he drove into the turning lane and crashed head-on into a southbound 2005 Jeep Liberty, state police said. A southbound 2004 Freightliner then struck the Jeep, driven by Lisa Jumper, 54.

Howell, a passenger in the Jeep, died of her injuries at the scene, state police said.

Marquis, Jumper and two other passengers in the Jeep - Hayden Howell and Hunter Howell, ages unknown, of Colt - were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and the Regional Medical Center, both in Memphis, state police said.

The tractor-trailer driver, Anthony Brown, 42, of Lake City, was not injured.
