Clemmer to reveal election intentions

State Rep. Ann Clemmer, R-Benton, declined to say Monday whether she’s decided to run for the 2nd Congressional District seat next year but plans to make an announcement about her intentions Wednesday.

She said her announcement will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Old Supreme Court room at the state Capitol in Little Rock.

Clemmer is one of several Republicans who have considered seeking the congressional seat since Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin of Little Rock announced eight days ago that he wouldn’t seek re-election to the post that he has held since 2011.

Clemmer has served in the House since 2009 and is barred from seeking re-election under the state’s term-limits amendment. In May, she said she intended to challenge state Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson, R-Little Rock, in 2014.

The other Republicans who said they are considering seeking the seat include Little Rock businessman French Hill, state Sen. Jonathan Dismang of Searcy, state Rep. Doug House of North Little Rock, former state Rep. Ed Garner of Maumelle and retired Army Col. Conrad Reynolds of Conway.

A week ago, former North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Hays announced his plan to seek the Democratic nomination for the seat.

Former Lt. Gov. Bill Halter of North Little Rock and former state Rep. Linda Tyler of Conway have said they’re also thinking about vying for the Democratic nomination.
