Lead Hill police chief arrested on theft charge

LEAD HILL — Authorities in north Arkansas say the Lead Hill police chief was arrested on suspicion of selling guns that he seized from a resident.

Police Chief Kenny Barnes was arrested Monday at Lead Hill City Hall. Boone County Sheriff Mike Moore says Barnes is accused of seizing several guns from a home in Diamond City when he was off duty. Barnes is accused of later selling those guns for personal gain.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony theft, abuse of public trust, abuse of office and release or disclosure to unauthorized person for allegedly misusing information from the Arkansas Crime Information Computer.

Barnes was released from the Boone County jail Monday night. It wasn't immediately clear whether he had an attorney.
