State auditor hopeful files finance report 10 days late

Democratic state auditor candidate Regina Stewart Hampton of Little Rock filed a campaign finance report for last quarter 10 days late, but she won’t file a tardy report again, a spokesman for Hampton said Monday.

Hampton reported raising $2,425 in contributions, loaning her campaign $4,062 and spending $4,062 last quarter, leaving $2,425 in the bank as of Sept. 30.

According to records in the secretary of state’s office, Hampton filed her report for last quarter on Friday - 10 days after it was due under state law. She works for Democratic state Auditor Charlie Daniels of Bryant, who is not seeking re-election in 2014.

Hampton’s husband, R.J.Hampton, who ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for governor in 1970, said he didn’t know the campaign finance report was due Oct. 15. He said the campaign held a fundraiser Oct. 6 and set up a bank account a few weeks ago.

“We will not be late again,” he said.

State Rep. Andrea Lea of Russellville and Ken Yang of Benton, who works for the Family Council, are seeking the Republican nomination for state auditor next year.

The state auditor prints more than 3 million state checks a year worth $17 billion and serves on the board of trustees for the Arkansas Public Employees Retirement System and Arkansas Teacher Retirement System as well as the state Board of Finance.
