5 killed in accidents on Arkansas roads

Five people died in separate accidents on state roads since Friday, according to preliminary Arkansas State Police fatality crash reports.

About 6 a.m. Tuesday, Eric Cook, 28, of Glenwood was driving west on Arkansas 8 just west of Glenwood in Montgomery County when he lost control of his 1996 Toyota and crossed the centerline, state police said. An eastbound 2002 Chevrolet then struck the passenger side of Cook’s vehicle, state police said.

Cook died of his injuries at the accident scene, and Samuel Young, 36, of Norman was taken to Mercy Hospital, police said.

Just after 8:30 p.m. Monday, Charles Daniel, 37, of Sparkman was heading south on Arkansas 7 in Sparkman in a 2000 Chevrolet truck when he veered off the road, over corrected and veered onto the other side of the highway, state police said. The truck rolled over, and Daniel died, police said.

Also on Monday, Dylan Brady, 19, of Strawberry died after his vehicle overturned near Smithville, state police said.

About 8:35 p.m., Brady was driving south in a 1995 Chevrolet on Lawrence County Road 269 and began negotiating a curve when the vehicle rolled over, state police said.

Two passengers - Danielle Ervin, 17, and Kyle Bristow, 22 - were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

John Rodman, 53, was driving south on U.S. 67 in White County about 5:10 p.m. Monday when his 2008 Chevrolet left the road and struck an overpass column, state police said. He was taken to the White County Medical Center where he later died.

About 3:15 p.m. Friday, Dan Ballard, 67, of Afton, Okla., was riding east on Arkansas 62 in Eureka Springs when he began negotiating a curve, state police said. His 2011 Harley Davidson left the road, and Ballard was thrown from the motorcycle, striking a tree and a parked 2012 Hyundai, state police said.

Ballard died of his injuries.
