Rep. Ann Clemmer announced her candidacy for the second district congressional seat in a Wednesday afternoon news conference.

Rep. Ann Clemmer announced Wednesday afternoon that she would be seeking the Republican nomination for the 2nd Congressional District seat that will be vacated by departing congressman Tim Griffin.

“We have given too much of our power and we have given up far too much of our money in Washington D.C.,” Clemmer said in a news conference at the state Capitol.

Clemmer, who currently represents the 23rd District in the Arkansas House of Representatives, is the third Republican and fourth overall candidate to announce a bid for the seat. Little Rock bank executive French Hill and retired Army Col. Conrad Reynolds, both Republicans, announced their bids for the seat Tuesday, while former North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Hays, a Democrat, announced his bid Oct. 22.

The long-time representative said that her issues with the new federal healthcare laws and the $17 trillion federal debt are among her reasons for running.

On her personal Twitter account, Clemmer announced Tuesday the launch of a “Clemmer of Congress” feed to assist her campaign. She announced a campaign kick-off event for 6 p.m. Thursday.
