Lead Hill Police Chief Kenny Barnes is to be arraigned Friday, Moore said. Arkansas State Police officers arrested Barnes at the Boone County Courthouse in Harrison after he agreed to meet them. In addition to felony theft of property, Barnes was also charged with abuse of public trust, abuse of office and release or disclosure to an unauthorized person, according to a news release issued by the Boone County sheriff’s office Monday.

Barnes was booked into the Boone County jail Monday and released on $75,000 bond the same day, Moore said.

According to the release, Barnes is accused of illegally seizing several guns from the home of a Diamond City resident while conducting an investigation in the area. According to the release, investigators determined that Barnes later sold some or all of the firearms for financial gain.

Moore said Tuesday that he was unaware of Barnes’ purported behavior until a few days before state police made the arrest.
