A Little Rock police officer's keen observation prevented a robbery Wednesday morning, the Little Rock Police Department has said.
At 3:20 a.m., the officer was heading west on Markham Street when he noticed a silver Toyota parked near the ATM at Regions Bank, 4224 W. Markham St., had both doors open, according to police report.
The officer pulled up to the vehicle in the parking lot and made contact with two men, Carl Alexander, 54, and Antonio Stanley, 37, the report says. Alexander told the officer that Stanley was attempting to rob him, police said.
A search revealed a Walther P22 handgun in the front passenger seat of the car, where Stanley had been sitting when the officer arrived, according to the report. The officer also found a .22 caliber bullet in Stanley's pocket and 1.1 grams of crack cocaine on the ground near him, police said. A Regions Bank ATM card was recovered at the scene as well, the report says.
Stanley was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and possession of firearms by certain persons.
