A sex offender acknowledged living near a daycare but said it was "too bad because he has a lease," authorities wrote in an arrest report.
Fred William Arnold, 64, is charged with being a registered offender living near a daycare, a Class D felony. He remained in the Pulaski County jail Thursday in lieu of $10,000 bond.
Arnold had been arrested recently for failing to register as a sex offender, police wrote, before meeting with investigators Wednesday.
"Suspect came in today and was uncooperative and said he lives near a daycare," police wrote in the report. "He was told that was not permitted. He said that's too bad because he has a lease."
The report noted Arnold had "ample time to find a place" and had made no attempt to check with authorities on whether he could live at the address he chose in the 7500 block of Geyer Springs Road.
The report didn't name the daycare, but several are listed online with addresses nearby, including First Steps Child Development Center, less than a half mile south.
Arnold wasn't listed on the online Arkansas sex offender registry Thursday morning. But he did appear on a registry in South Carolina, which is listed on the arrest report as his place of birth.
That registry shows a different Little Rock address for Arnold and notes a 1998 release on a charge of disseminating obscene material to a minor under 12 years of age.
