JONESBORO — Jonesboro's mayor says that while he and some of his employees will spend $2,500 to travel to Washington, D.C., next week, the city will eventually receive far more in return.
Mayor Harold Perrin says Jonesboro has needs that cannot be supported by local tax revenue alone so he and others will meet with federal agencies next week.
Meetings have been set up with leaders with federal transit and highway officials and with the departments of Transportation and Human Services.
City officials say that face-to-face meetings help Jonesboro build personal relationships with decision-makers to be benefit of the community.
Perrin said he also wants to tell agencies how federal money received previously was put to use.
