A five-year-old boy from Royal drowned at Lake Quachita, a Garland County official said in a statement on Friday night.
Deputy Scott Hinojosa said the child was swimming with a life jacket, but may have slipped out of it and went underwater. The child's name has not been released, because it is the sheriff office's policy to not release juvenile names, he said.
At about 7:55 p.m., the sheriff's office was contacted about a child that was missing at the Spillway Day Use area on Lake Quachita, Hinojosa said. A short time later, a family member found the child unresponsive in the water.
First responders and Life Net officials attempted CPR on the child, according to the police report. The child was taken to Mercy Hospital by helicopter where he was pronounced dead, the report states.
