iPhone app helps police in LR armed robbery

An iPhone application helped police locate two suspects after an armed robbery Tuesday night in downtown Little Rock.

Little Rock police arrived at the Comfort Inn, 770 Collins St., about 8 p.m. to find a 67-year-old Memphis man bleeding from his forehead in the hotel lobby, according to the police report.

The victim, who was staying at the hotel, said he was walking there from Regions Bank, 824 E. Ninth St., when a black male approached him from behind with a black revolver and demanded his money, police said. The man gave the robber $100 and his iPhone, and the robber then struck him on the head with the gun, the report states.

Using the "Find My Phone" app, police tracked the iPhone to a location on Hangar Street, where they were involved in a foot chase with two suspects a short time later, authorities said. The two were taken into custody, and a gun and the victim's phone were recovered, police said.

Calls to the Police Department to determine the suspects' identities and the victim's condition were not immediately returned.
