HOT SPRINGS — Officials say the annual winter drawdowns at Lakes Hamilton and Catherine in Hot Springs are to begin Nov. 2.
Lake levels will be reduced by about 6 inches per day through Nov. 10. The water released at the dams will be used to generate hydroelectric power.
Entergy Arkansas coordinates the annual winter drawdown with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to help with shoreline maintenance and inspections and to help control nuisance aquatic vegetation.
Boaters should be careful during the drawdowns because there will be more shallow areas and winter rains can increase the amount of debris washed into the lakes. Boat and floating dock owners should take precautions to ensure they're able to adjust to the drawdown.
Both lakes will return to their normal summertime levels in March 2014.
