Farmington defense answers the call

WEST FORK — It’s safe to say the Farmington defense answers the call when West Fork is on the schedule.

For the second consecutive season, the Cardinals (2-0) pitched a shutout, defeating the Tigers 28-0 at Tiger Stadium.

“Our defense did play great tonight,” Farmington coach Mike Adams said. “They came out in a swinging gate offense which we hadn’t prepared for. Coach Harper, his staff and the players did a great job getting adjusted to that and figured out ways to get stops.”

A sloppy first half saw West Fork put it on the ground twice and throw an interception, with the miscues leading to a pair of Farmington touchdowns.

Ian Crawford scored first with an 11-yard scamper around left end and Justice Hobbs bullied his way in from five yards out and a 14-0 lead the Cardinals took to intermission.

Farmington inserted sophomores the majority of the second half, as West Fork (0-2) was already playing short-handed because of a number of injuries.

“We are really banged up right now,” West Fork coach Brad Lindley said. “We’re having to play a lot of guys both ways. From a competition standpoint, our kids are giving it all they’ve got.”

Walker Davis, a sophomore running back for Farmington, finalized the scoring with a one-yard plunge with 3:17 remaining in the contest.

“We’re still really young offensively,” Adams said. “It shows at times and we make lots of mistakes. But the last quarter, our offensive line took over the game. We’ve got depth at our skill positions and we’ve just got to continue to get tuned in.”
