LR exec to seek House District 35 seat

Businessman French Hill of Little Rock said Wednesday that he intends to seek the Republican nomination for House District 35 - a seat held by term-limited Rep. John Edwards, D-Little Rock - next year.

Hill - chairman and chief executive officer of Delta Trust & Banking Corp. - said in a news release that he wants to work on policies spurring economic growth, increasing accountability in state government and focusing on “what we get” in education rather than on “a ‘what we spend’ approach.”

Hill was a senior economic policy adviser to President George H.W. Bush and served as deputy assistant secretary of the U.S. Treasury.

Little Rock Democrat Joseph “Jodie” Mahony of Little Rock - a son of the late Rep. Jodie Mahony, D-El Dorado - has said he intends to run for the Democratic nomination in House District 35. Mahony is a lobbyist for the Developmental Disabilities Providers Association.

Pulaski County Justice of the Peace Tyler Denton of Little Rock, who works for the ONE Campaign, and Jordan Johnson, who previously worked for the Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods advertising agency, said Wednesday that they’re still weighing whether to run for the Democratic nomination for the House seat.
