Opossum raids courthouse for snacks

ASHDOWN — Officials say an unlikely culprit has been raiding snacks and knocking over flower pots at a courthouse in southwest Arkansas: an opossum.

The Texarkana Gazette reported that officials at the Little River County Courthouse in Ashdown caught the opossum Tuesday and released it into the wild.

Courthouse maintenance supervisor Tom Knighten says the opossum found a few holes in the courthouse floor and likely crawled up along an electrical conduit.

Knighten says the courthouse staff named the opossum "Juror No. 13."

Its capture comes after workers at the courthouse about 150 miles southwest of Little Rock found that cookies and crackers had been eaten and a couple of flower pots were overturned.
