A central Arkansas firefighter who died in the line of duty will be honored next month at a national memorial service for fallen fire personnel.
The life and service of Capt. Donald L. Jones, 56, will be commemorated at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Md. on Oct. 6, according to a news release.
Jones died after being struck by a vehicle at the scene of an automobile accident along Arkansas 161 on March 20, 2012. The man responsible for Jones' death, Bryce Allen, was charged with second-degree murder.
Jones' name will also be added to the National Firefighters Memorial on the academy grounds. Around 5,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony.
Families of the honored firefighters in attendance will receive flags that were flown over the United States Capitol and the national memorial, the release said.
