State officials have determined that mixed-drug intoxication caused the death of a Gassville man who died while held at the Baxter County jail in May.
An examination by the state medical examiner's office determined that Thomas Lee Self, 36, had seven kinds of controlled substances in his body when he was found unresponsive by jail officials in a holding cell at 9:15 a.m. May 31, the Baxter County sheriff's office said in a statement.
The official cause of death was determined to be mixed-drug intoxication, authorities said.
Self, who was sharing the cell with another inmate, had been in the facility for one day after being booked on two misdemeanor charges, and had multiple warrants out for his arrest from other agencies, the sheriff's office said.
Officials said Arkansas State Police are investigating the death.
