A Pulaski County jail inmate hung himself using a bed sheet after being arrested on the same day, according to documents provided by the sheriff's office Friday.
An officer discovered Shelton Mitchell, 27, of Little Rock hanging from a bed sheet in his cell about 8:52 p.m. Thursday while performing a routine security check of the jail, according to a one sheriff's report.
The Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services was called, and coroners arrived about 11:30 p.m. to retrieve Mitchell's body.
Mitchell was arrested Thursday morning after officers responded to a call from his girlfriend about 9:36 a.m. at 7100 Redwood Dr. in Little Rock, according to a Little Rock Police Department report.
Mitchell purportedly had accused his girlfriend of having sex with her friends and his sister on Tuesday.
Mitchell's girlfriend said he forced her to stay at their house until Thursday, when his girlfriend said she was able to escape to her sister's house.
The victim told police she could not call them earlier because she didn't have a phone, the report states.
