One child died and three other people were injured from a car wreck Friday night in Helena, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 6:53 p.m. in dry and clear conditions, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report.
Police say Correna Woosytitty, 26, of Helena was driving north in a 2003 Toyota vehicle on Arkansas 242 when another northbound vehicle — a white 1995 GMC — attempted to turn left onto County Road 326. Woosytitty purportedly swerved into the highway's southbound lane to avoid hitting the white GMC, which was still turning left.
Both vehicles collided and traveled into a ditch, the report states.
Officials said three passengers were ejected from Woosytitty's vehicle, including Isabella Haury, 5, of Helena who later died about 8:01 p.m. at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.
Woosytitty and the other two child passengers Alejundro Haury, 7, and Mya Haury, 6, were taken to a hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries, authorities said.
The five-year-old girl's death marks the 353th death in traffic accidents on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary reports.
