April events to mark Civil War sesquicentennial

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission will hold a spate of events in April to mark the 150th anniversary of the 1864 Camden Expedition, a military campaign through central and south Arkansas that ran from late March through early May that year.

The commission is part of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, a state agency tasked with identifying and safeguarding the state's historic and cultural heritage.

Sesquicentennial events for April include:

• The Arkansas History Commission's traveling exhibit "Fought in Earnest: Civil War Arkansas," on display at the Mullins Library at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville from April 1-25. More information is available by calling (479) 575-7311.

• The Arkansas Historical Association's 73rd annual conference with the theme "The Home Front," to run from Thursday-Saturday at Historic Washington State Park in Hempstead County. More information is available by calling (479) 575-5884 or emailing dludlow@uark.edu.
