LITTLE ROCK — The Diocese of Little Rock says former Bishop Andrew McDonald has died. He was 90.

Dennis Lee, the diocese's chancellor for administrative affairs in Little Rock, says McDonald died Tuesday morning in Palatine, Ill., where he moved after serving 28 years as bishop in Arkansas. Lee did not release a cause of death.

McDonald was selected as the fifth Catholic bishop in Little Rock in 1972 and stepped down in 2000.

After his resignation, McDonald served as a chaplain for the Little Sisters of the Poor at St. Joseph Home for the Elderly in Palatine, Ill., according to the diocese's website.
