American Airlines has started offering daily direct flights between Little Rock and New York City, the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport said Wednesday.

The nonstop three-and-a-half hour flight to LaGuardia leaves at 6:30 a.m. most days. A return flight arrives back in Little Rock about 9:30 p.m.

Clinton National Airport Executive Director Ronald F. Mathieu noted the new flights allow Arkansas travelers "to be connected with the financial capital for business or fun."

“We certainly appreciate the confidence that American has in Little Rock to invest an additional resource, and hope the community will find the new service beneficial and will support it,” he said in a statement.

Round-trip tickets, which can be booked at aa.com were being sold online Wednesday afternoon for flights this week for a base rate of about $550.

The direct flights began Wednesday.
