FILE — 1/18/2013 — NLR athlete Altee Tenpenny talks to the media before Friday night's 7A quarter final game in North Little Rock.

A former standout running back for North Little Rock High School who now plays for the University of Alabama was arrested last month in his hometown, police records show.

A North Little Rock police report shows 19-year-old Altee Tenpenny was arrested and later issued a criminal citation for possession of a controlled substance.

The arrest was reported earlier Wednesday by Justin Acri, who hosts The Zone on 103.7 The Buzz.

According to the report, an officer stopped Tenpenny's vehicle near McCain Boulevard and Edgemere Street around 2:20 a.m. on March 21 because its license plate light was out.

Tenpenny was driving.

"... I noticed he appeared extremely nervous and his hands were shaking uncontrollably," officer Jeffrey Coburn wrote in the report. "Additionally, I could detect the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from within the vehicle."

The report says Tenpenny admitted smoking a marijuana cigarette an hour prior but said there was no additional marijuana in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a bag with 2.1 grams of suspected marijuana, the report added.

Tenpenny was arrested, taken to the station for processing and released with a criminal citation, the report said. An April 10 court date is set.

As a freshman at Alabama, Tenpenny played in 13 games, rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Glad he went to Bama. Razorbacks don't need another headache like that.

Very happy that Tenpenny did not join the Razorbacks. How he ever graduated NLRHS I'll never know but the good news is that the better of the running back duo from the charging wildcats, Juan Day, has signed with Arkansas. Regretfully for Tenpenny this will become an issue when he tries to join the NFL. Go Wildcats!!

He will do well in the NFL. He has the almost perfect resume for their needs. He needs to add murder and assault charges to complete it. And, he already knows how to lie. He should have turned pro right after he "graduated" for high school.

You don't often see a young man, who's showered with accolades in high school, go on to take advantage of a free college education provided by his athletic gifts, as well as show the sense of responsibility that goes with talent, fame, and the commitment made to his future by his university. Here's a good case in point. Life is all about personal choices and responsibility. smh.
