LR burglary leaves one man injured, police say

Little Rock police say a man was shot Thursday night while he and his brother investigated a reported burglary in their neighborhood.

A 16-year-old boy told his neighbor, Jelani Washington, 25, that he saw someone breaking into a house at 3 Regency Circle shortly before 11 p.m., Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said.

Washington said he called a resident he knew at that address before walking to the house with his brother, Fredrick Burgess, 26, to check on it.

When the brothers approached the residence, two unknown males in dark clothing appeared from the east side of the house and started shooting at them, a police report states.

Burgess was shot in his right side and transported to UAMS Medical Center, according to the report. His condition was not known Friday afternoon.

Investigators found a broken window on the east side of the home and blood on the street in front of it, the report states. Allen said no further information was immediately available.
