Republican budget would shrink opportunity, Obama says

By The Associated Press

This article was published April 5, 2014 at 9:59 a.m.

— President Barack Obama said the Republican budget proposal would shrink opportunity and make it tougher for hard-working Americans to get ahead.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama said House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan's budget gives massive tax cuts to the rich while cutting programs like education and research that spur job growth. The president said Republicans would also take away insurance from 7 million who enrolled through his health care law and would gut financial protections.

Obama says his own plan grows the economy from the middle out instead of the top down.

In the Republican address, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina said federal job-training programs are too scattered, bureaucratic and inefficient. He says Democrats should support Republican legislation to streamline the programs.

The economy and jobs are growing at such an astronomical rate, why would anyone want to change? Also consider the way Obama has retired almost all the national debt................

I guess you guys all want George Bush back -- so we can start losing jobs again. So the deficit can start increasing each year again, instead of decreasing. You want to go back to sick people being unable to get insurance. How about going back to another mid-east war where thousands more of American soldiers can get killed. That's what we had before Obama. He looks pretty good to me.

According to Fox the numbers were right when they were dismal after the Obamacare website roll out, now after 7 million enrolled, Fox says they are cooking the books. When unemployment was 8.2 Fox agreed with the numbers now at 6.7 the government is cooking the books. The biggest book cooker of all Ken Lay of Enron fame was ahole buddies with GW. Enron like to have bankrupted California after electricity deregulation there.

When the top tax rate is 39%:
The effective tax rate of the top 1% was 23.5%: The average tax rate paid by these high-income households was 23.5% -- which represents the percent of their income they paid in federal income taxes.
That's below the 27.6% they paid in 2001 -- a high point for the decade that followed.
*
What will it be if the top tax rate is 25%? Just asking.

DDDKA: Better for whom?
.

Yeah, we need to go back to the republicans that squandered a balanced budget and repealed pay-as-you-go.
How did the republicans pay for those 2 tax cuts?
How did the republicans pay for 2 wars?
How did the republicans pay for $400 Billion in Medicare expansion?
WHO PROFITED from crashing the economy?
WHO PROFITED from the tax cuts?
WHO SHIPPED and OUTSOURCED THE JOBS overseas?
List ALL the republican cuts in spending! WHAT? There was NONE? WOW!

The 1% who are really getting soaked are the ones who are in the top 1% of earners, but not the top 1% of wealth. The extremely wealthy are paying more of an effective rate around 15%, while the attorneys, doctors, accountants etc. who are making $500,000 a year are paying 25%. (These people also do not make that much their entire lives; they had many years of education and lower earnings). The Republicans now want to put a special tax on professionals all the while passing special tax breaks for billionaire owners of oil sand and while voting for bond issues to finance steel mills owned by billionaires. It seems that the Republicans want to put a special tax on lawyers to punish them for being more democratic and caring about such things as the environment and individual liberty.
