Fayetteville man killed when car hits multiple trees

A 26-year-old Fayetteville man was killed Sunday afternoon when his car "traveled underneath a trailer and struck several trees along the highway," the Arkansas State Police said.

Ray C. Townley of Alma was driving a Kenworth truck about 1:55 p.m. on U.S. 412 in Siloam Springs when the truck turned in front of a car driven Matthew Tanner Rundle onto Fairmount Road, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary crash report.

Rundle then drove his Mazda 6 under the truck's trailer and hit trees along the highway, the report states. Rundle was killed in the collision, while Townley was not injured, state police said.

Conditions were described as clear and dry when the accident occurred.

This was the 82nd fatality in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
