2 killed in wrecks on Arkansas roads

A Mississippi man was killed in Arkansas early Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash, the Arkansas State Police reported.

George Cook, 78, of Horn Lake, was a passenger in a Ford Taurus traveling south on Interstate 55 in Crittenden County. At 2:16 a.m., the car struck the rear of another vehicle at the 14-mile marker of the interstate. Cook was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Taurus, 35-year-old Brian Cook, was injured in the crash. He was taken to Regional One Health in Memphis for treatment.

State police also reported Tuesday that a man was killed in Russellville when his Chevrolet truck crashed on Arkansas 124.

Lewis Brooks, 53, was driving west on the highway Monday when the truck left the road about 6:30 p.m. When Brooks attempted to regain control of the vehicle, it went back across the road and into a ditch, where it went airborne and struck a tree. Brooks was ejected from the truck, according to state police.

He was taken to an unidentified hospital, where he died.
