OKLAHOMA STATE 7, UALR 6

UALR (13-17) built an early lead but couldn’t hold off Oklahoma State (23-10) on Tuesday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater, Okla.

Ben Crumpton’s four-hit performance helped UALR outhit Oklahoma State, but four errors that led to six unearned runs were too much to overcome.

UALR took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Austin Pfeiffer drew a walk and advanced to second when Tanner Rockwell reached on an error. Justin Steelmon singled to drive in Pfeiffer, and Rockwell came home on a balk by Garrett Williams.

The Cowboys cut it to 2-1 on a home run by Donnie Walton in the bottom half of the inning, but UALR answered with two more runs in the second. Bryson Thionnet singled to lead off the inning and later scored on Drew Merten’s hit to center. Hayden Martin reached on a fielder’s choice and later scored when Pfeiffer reached on an error for a 4-1 lead.

OSU opened the bottom of the third with two walks and a Trojans error to load the bases and chase UALR starter Chad Bradford from the game. Ethan Schlechte came in and allowed a sacrifice fly to Gage Green and a single by Zach Fish to make it 4-3. Tim Arakawa followed with a single to right, but a two base error in the outfield allowed two more to score as OSU took a 5-4 lead.

Bradford struggled, allowing 3 runs, 1 earned, on 1 hit while walking 4 in 2 innings.

The Cowboys capitalized on two more errors by UALR in the fifth inning to score two runs for a 7-4 lead.

The Trojans scored their final two runs in the seventh. Rockwell’s double scored Crumpton, and Steelmon’s ground out moved Rockwell to third before a wild pitch allowed the junior to race home and cut the deficit to 7-6.
