Hannahs decides to become a Hog

Former Texas Tech guard Dusty Hannahs has decided to finish his college basketball career at Arkansas.

Hannahs, who played at Pulaski Academy, received his release from Texas Tech on March 25 and accepted a scholarship offer from Arkansas coaches Wednesday.

Hannahs, 6-4, 210 pounds, chose the Red Raiders in 2011 over scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Rice, Louisiana Tech, SMU, the University of Central Arkansas, Southeast Missouri State, Army and Air Force.

Hannahs said he spoke with associate head coach Melvin Watkins and Coach Mike Anderson on Wednesday afternoon.

“He let me know they were offering me a scholarship, and I accepted,” Hannahs said. “I talked to Coach Anderson and confirmed everything.”

Hannahs started 17 of 31 games as a freshman and averaged 8.4 points while shooting 36.9 percent from beyond the three-point line. He started 9 of 32 games as a sophomore and averaged 7.7 points while shooting 36.9 percent from beyond the three-point line and a school-record 92.3 percent from the free-throw line.

“I’m very excited about what’s coming at Arkansas in the next few years, and I can’t wait to be a part of it,” Hannahs said.

Hannahs scored a career-high 25 points against West Virginia in January and set a Big 12 and school record by hitting 7 of 7 from beyond the three-point line.

He’ll sit out next season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“I’ll use that year learning the system and hopefully getting ready for a really bright future,” Hannahs said. “I’m ready to help the Hogs and be a vital part of a deep NCAA Tournament run and possibly a national championship.”

BASEBALL Former Hog Eibner has career day

Former Arkansas Razorbacks outfielder Brett Eibner had his first career five-hit game, including 2 home runs, and had 9 RBI for the Omaha Storm Chasers (Class AAA Royals) in a 20-3 victory over the Memphis Redbirds on Wednesday at Werener Park in Papillion, Neb.

Eibner, who played for Class AA Northwest Arkansas last season, hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning as the Storm Chasers (4-3) jumped out to an 8-2 lead. He hit another three-run home run in the sixth inning as Omaha scored six in the inning for a 16-3 lead. Eibner picked up his final three RBI on a double in the seventh inning that extended the lead to 19-3.

Eibner’s nine RBI set a Werner Park record for the Storm Chasers, surpassing the record of seven RBI set nearly a year ago. It was also the most RBI in a game for Omaha since Mike Moustakas had 11 during the final homestand at Rosenblatt Stadium in 2010, which is the modern Pacific Coast League record.

Harding (22-15) and Union (12-24) were tied 2-2 after four innings, with Chandler driving in both Bison runs. The Bisons added two runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Matt Calhoun and an RBI ground out by James Anderson to take the lead for good.

Harding scored two more runs in the eighth inning on an RBI double from Davis Richardson, who later scored on a single from Harrison Hunter.
