Two people were killed and a third injured Wednesday after a driver moved to pass another vehicle in the opposing lane and hit an oncoming car, police said.

It happened about 6:30 p.m. on Arkansas 365 near Plantation Drive in Faulkner County.

Arkansas State Police say Mary M. Lasker, 65, of Conway was driving a 2009 Pontiac Vibe south in the northbound lanes as she attempted to pass other southbound traffic. The Vibe then struck the front of a northbound 2005 Buick LeSabre, according to a report.

Lasker was taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock with unspecified injuries.

A passenger in her car, 62-year-old Joe K. Lasker of Conway, and the LeSabre driver, 35-year-old Daniel Southard of Conway, suffered fatal injuries, the report said.

The deaths marked the 89th and 90th fatalities in traffic crashes in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
