Lafayette County treasurer accused of embezzlement

The Lafayette County treasurer-tax collector is accused of embezzling funds from the office, authorities said Friday.

Keesha Rose, 36, was arraigned Friday after being indicted in January on two counts of theft of a program receiving federal funds in excess of at least $5,000.

A legislative audit revealed the embezzled money, U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge said in a statement.

“We remain committed to investigating and prosecuting public officials that abuse the trust placed in them by embezzling public funds," Eldridge said. "Such conduct offends taxpayers and citizens as well as the vast majority of public officials who dedicate themselves to service day in and day out.”

The case was investigated by the FBI and Arkansas State Police.
