U.S. 70 work to shut lanes next week

Work on U.S. 70 will require lane closures in Garland and Saline counties next week, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said Friday.

Crews conducting pavement testing in preparation for widening the highway will require lane closures between Hot Springs and Interstate 30 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday next week, weather permitting, the department said.

The closures will start on the eastbound lane of U.S. 70 in Hot Springs just east of the Hot Springs Bypass and continue to I-30. After that testing is done, crews will switch to the westbound lane, starting at I-30 and moving toward Hot Springs, officials said.

Traffic will be controlled using flaggers and cones, the department said.

Also next week, pavement repairs on east end of the Martin Luther King Expressway will require lane closures between U.S. 270 and East Grant Avenue in Hot Springs, the department said. The work will reduce eastbound traffic to a single lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said.
