Arkansas attorney general rejects marijuana item

— The Arkansas attorney general's office has rejected the proposed wording for a prospective ballot item that would let voters decide whether to legalize marijuana in the state.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's office on Friday told the group Arkansans for Medical Cannabis that there are problems with the wording of the ballot title.

An opinion from the office says the group, chaired by Robert L. Reed, needs to make additions to the ballot title to make it clearer what the proposal would do. As it's written, McDaniel's office says the proposal is ambiguous.

The group needs attorney general's approval before they can start collecting signatures to get the measure on the ballot.

Organizers have had previous attempts rejected but they can keep trying.
