Crews cleaning up fuel spill in San Antonio River

— Crews are working to clean up a fuel spill in the San Antonio River.

KENS-TV reports that officials with the San Antonio River Authority did not immediately know how much fuel had spilled. Initial reports indicated only one barrel of fuel was involved.

Steven Schauer, with the river authority, says teams responded to the spill near the Calumet refinery Saturday morning.

Crews have placed emergency spill kits in a small tributary east of the river near the plant.

Officials say the river south of Espada Park is closed to paddling until further notice.

A San Antonio Fire Department hazmat crew is also on the scene.

The refinery produces diesel, jet fuel and specialty solvents.
