Frog-Listening Workshop

MAMMOTH SPRING — Ozarka College will partner with FrogWatch USA to offer a free frog-listening workshop from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday and April 24 on the Mammoth Spring campus. The seminar will be presented by Tom Krohn, Arkansas regional coordinator for FrogWatch USA. The first session will teach participants to identify frogs and toads in the area by their calls, to mimic frog calls and to understand why frogs are important

and what can be done to help them. The second session will provide an introduction to wetlands and frog-monitoring training for the FrogWatch USA national network administered by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Rubber Duck Derby

SEARCY — Members of White County Central High School’s Future Business Leaders of America will hold Rubber Duck Derby 2014 on Friday to benefit Jacob’s Place. The racing ducks cost $5 and will be tossed into the Little Red River behind the Veterans of Foreign Wars post on Davis Road. Entertainment will be provided as the ducks float down the river. MELBOURNE – Ozarka College will host a Free Application for Federal Student Aid support day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday on all Ozarka College campuses. This free service offers students assistance from financial aid staff in completing the 2014-2015 FAFSA. Attending the support day will also ensure that students meet the priority application deadline of June 1. The FAFSA form is used by the college to determine a student’s financial-aid package. Funding options may include grants, scholarships, work-study or federal loan assistance. Students should bring their 2013 taxes (if they filed), W-2s, and FAFSA pin number. TEAS V Test Dates

Summer Nursing Activities Program

SEARCY — White County Medical Center is accepting applications for its Summer Nursing Activities Program, which is open to students who will go into the eighth or ninth grade in fall 2014. SNAP is a summer enrichment program designed for students who are interested in a career in nursing. The three-day program offers students an opportunity to learn first aid, CPR, healthy lifestyle habits and basic nursing skills. The program requires a complete application form, due April 25; a GPA of 2.5 or higher; a Life Sciences course, completed or enrolled; two letters of recommendation; and a 50- to 75 word essay about participating. SNAP is open to students in Cleburne, Independence, Jackson, Prairie, White and Woodruff counties. The program will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 16-18 at WCMC’s South Campus. Labyrinth-Walking Workshop

MOUNTAIN VIEW — The Ozarka College-Mountain View Continuing Education Department will host a free labyrinth-walking workshop at 10 a.m. April 26 in the lecture hall. The labyrinth is an ancient tool for spiritual, personal and psychological transformation. Participants will explore the history of labyrinths and their resurgence in the 21st century. Community Health Fair

Playwright Contest

SEARCY — The Performing Arts Center on the Square will hold its second annual Playwright Contest. Original scripts of one-act, two-act and full-length plays will be accepted until May 2.
