Next round of Taliban talks coming soon, Pakistan officials say

— Pakistan's interior minister said the next round of direct peace talks with the country's Taliban will take place in the coming days.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, speaking at a news conference Sunday, denied there is a deadlock in negotiations. He said during the next meeting with the militants the two sides will develop a full and comprehensive agenda.

The Pakistani government has been trying to negotiate a peace deal with militants who have been waging war against the state for years, killing thousands. They have held one round of direct talks so far.

The Pakistani Taliban is loosely aligned with the Taliban fighting in neighboring Afghanistan but has a separate leadership structure and has focused its efforts on overthrowing the Pakistani government.
