National Weather Service confirms state's first tornado of 2014

The National Weather Service in Tulsa confirmed that an EF1 tornado swept through Franklin County on Sunday night.

John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Little Rock, said the tornado is the first confirmed in the state for 2014.

Amy Jankowski, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Tulsa said the tornado started near the city of Vesta and ended near Peter Pender in western Arkansas.

"The pass is about four miles long," Jankowski said Monday.

Jankowski said several barns and some homes in the area were damaged from the tornado and numerous hardwood and softwood trees were snapped.
