Lottery debit-card proposal to get hearing

LITTLE ROCK — A legislative committee is to hear a proposal from the director of the Arkansas lottery on the prospect of allowing players to use debit cards to buy tickets.

The Lottery Oversight Committee convenes Tuesday afternoon to look at the effects of changing the lottery's current policy of allowing players to only use cash to make their purchases.

Lottery Director Bishop Woosley has said that allowing debit cards would likely boost sales.

The lottery has seen sales decline since the games were first introduced, leaving less money available for college scholarships.

Higher Education Department Director Shane Broadway is also on the agenda to update the panel on scholarship availability.
